List building is the best thing that you do to ramp up any business. With a large prospect list, you will always be able to get new customers and make more sales.
When I started my computer business more than thirty years ago, I did not know it and it was only later that I realized that I needed to get my customers’ contact details. Fortunately, I had copies of all the invoices with my customers’ names and addresses.
My wife was helping me in the business, and I asked her to find the people’s telephone numbers and phone them. She asked them if they were satisfied with their computers and if they would give her their email address.
Most of them gave their email addresses and from then on, I would always ask them for it when I would help a customer. Today we have a huge customer list and if we need extra money, we just make them an offer they cannot refuse.
Segregation of Your Lists
One thing that I learned from an early stage was to put people with similar interests in different lists so that I can send a specific offer to them.
For instance, I created a list of all the people that bought printers from me and then sent them a special offer for paper or ink for their printers.
Recently I discovered a neat way to do the same with any list automatically.
Example:
Say you have a single list with all your prospects, and you would like to find out what their interests are.
You can now create some quick tutorials for each of your topics. Offer access to these tutorials to all the people on your list.
When somebody clicks on a certain tutorial you will know that they are interested in that topic. Create a separate landing page for each tutorial with a form where they can enter their details.
This way you can sort your list automatically into different lists with unique interests. It is much easier to create content for people if you know what they are interested in.
I have created these three Quick Tutorials to find out what my subscribers’ main interests were. Have a look to see how it works.
